Learn how to downgrade wordpress to the earlier stable version by following simple steps the tutorial is tested up to Wordpress 3.5. Hardly take 10 mins.

WordPress has released a lot of versions.

The version includes the Beta (testing) version, Night-build versions as well as stable versions of WordPress.

Whenever you find a message of updating WordPress at you WordPress dashboard and update your WordPress, the version is stable new version than your current version.

But, if you are getting lots of problems in the updated version and want to downgrade WordPress, shift back to your older WordPress version then you just have to follow the steps given below. You just need to have your older version of wordpress and cPanel or FTP access of your website.

Your data, content, post, pages, content, excert, comments settings and all the things are stored in your My-SQL Database and we are not touching them so, no need to worry about your website’s content.

Note : Before going to process, it is highly recommended that you make your full website’s backup from any WordPress plugin or the “create backup” option available at cPanel.

How to Rollback WordPress Installation to Older Versions !

Steps to Manual Downgrade WordPress

Step 1: First, you need to download the earlier stable version of your WordPress in which you were working fine. You can download the earlier version from WordPress.ORG to your computer’s hard drive.

Step 2: Now, log-in to you WordPress admin panel and deactivate all your plugins by going to Plugins >> Installed Plugins.

Step 3: Log-out from your wordpress, log-in to cPanel and from file manager move to your website’s document root.

Step 4: Upload your previous version of WordPress here. Use the same .zip file of wordpress to upload which you got from WordPress.ORG and extract it to a different folder, say “wp”.

Step 5: Now, except “wp-content” folder, move all your files and folders of “wp” to the documents root using ‘move to’ option of your file manager, so that the earlier version’s files and folders will overwrite all except wp-content folder of that new version, as it contains  your wordpress themes, plugins and media library’s files.

Step 6: Now, try to log-in your wordpress admin panel, wordpress will request you to update you My-SQL database. Accept request and that’s all. 😀

For, downgrading wordpress from FTP client, enter your document root and all the other things will be same as that of cPanel, as I instructed above.
